Below are the rules for Fall Ball.  Please note that all games will be 1 hour drop dead time limit (inning will not be completed).  This is done to keep games on schedule.

Due to the back-to-school schedule for everyone this time of year, coaches have been told they are not allowed to practice more than 2 hours per week.  If your coach is requiring more than 2 hours per week of practice, please let us know by emailing  igsa@igsasoftball.com.  All emails will be kept confidential.

Coach Pitch:

​

  • Games will be 60 minutes

    • Drop dead

      • Clock starts at the end of the pregame.

    • Home team will be decided by coin flip

      • Due to drop dead, winner will want to be visitors

    • Defensive coaches

      • 2 defensive coaches are allowed in foul territory in the grass

        • Allowed only in foul territory, during live ball situation

        • Not allowed in Offensive coaches box

        • Not allowed to touch players or ball, during live ball.

    • Offensive coaches

      • Pitching coach stays either in circle or position themselves foul territory, away from the play.

        • Not allowed to move with play

        • Not allowed to interfere with the play

        • Not allowed to coach once ball put in play

      • Base coaches in 1st and 3rd base coaches box

        • Not allowed to touch or assist runner during play.

  • An at bat will consist of one of the following.

    • A batted ball put in play

    • 5 pitches

      • If the 5th pitch is fouled off, then batter will get “(1) Courtesy Pitch”

  • Stealing

    • Base runners are allowed to steal

      • No stealing home

      • They are at risk between bases

        • If the player over runs or takes additional base can be tagged if not achieve the additional base

          • If additional base achieved Umpire will put back.

 

  • Other league rules listed as applying to all divisions.

 

  • All other rules not specifically outlined will be governed by USSSA. 

 

 

 

 

Division 1:

  • Games will be 60 minutes

  • Pitching distance is 35 feet

    • Defensive coaches

      • Not allowed on field, need to stay in dugout

    • Offensive coaches

      • Pitching coach stays either in circle or position themselves foul territory, away from the play.

        • Not allowed to move with play

        • Not allowed to interfere with the play

        • Not to coach once ball put in play

      • Base coaches in 1st and 3rd base coaches box

        • Not allowed to touch or assist runner during play.

  • Adult Pitcher (must be 18 years old)

    • Coach will pitch after combination of (4) the following occurs

      • Walked batter

      • Hit Batsmen

      • Catchers obstruction

  • An at bat will consist of one of the following.

    • A batted ball put in play

    • Base on Balls during Kid pitch only

      • Not allowed during adult pitcher

    • Hit by Pitch during Kid pitch only

      • Not allow during adult pitcher

    • Catcher’s obstruction

    • 3 swinging strikes

      • Umpire judgment if swing or not

    • 5 pitches

        • Not allowed to touch or assist runner during play.

  • An at bat will consist of one of the following.

    • A batted ball put in play

    • Base on Balls

    • Hit by Pitch

    • Catcher’s obstruction

    • 3 swinging strikes

  • Drop 3rd strike is in effect

  • Infield fly is in effect

    • No restrictions

 

  • Other league rules listed as applying to all divisions.

 

  • All other rules not specifically outlined will be governed by USSSA.

 

 

 

​Division 3/5:

 

  • Games will be 60 minutes

    • Drop dead

      • Clock starts at the end of the pregame.

    • Home team will be decided by coin flip

      • Due to drop dead, winner will want to be visitors

  • Pitching distance is 43 feet

    • Defensive coaches

      • Not allowed on field, need to stay in dugout, during live ball

    • Offensive coaches

      • Base coaches in 1st and 3rd base coaches box

        • Not allowed to touch or assist runner during play.

  • An at bat will consist of one of the following.

    • A batted ball put in play

    • Base on Balls

    • Hit by Pitch

    • Catcher’s obstruction

    • 3 swinging strikes

  • Drop 3rd strike is in effect

  • Infield fly is in effect

    • No restrictions

 

  • Other league rules listed as applying to all divisions.

 

  • All other rules not specifically outlined will be governed by USSSA.

 

 

 

 

IGSA rules that apply to all divisions

 

  • Sportsmanship is not optional, it is mandatory expectation.

    • Head coach is responsible for all coaches, all fans and girls.

      • First offense, is a warning by the umpire

      • Second offense, is restriction to the bench

        • Not allowed to coach the rest of the game

        • Coach will receive a call from UIC to discuss behavior.

    • At the end of the game, all coaches and players will shake hands with opposing team

    • Head Coach / Manager

      • Responsible for the team

    • Assistant coaches / Pitching coach

      • To be on the field must be an adult: 18 years of age

  • Line ups

    • Head coach must present a complete line up

      • Players: first and last name ( no nicknames please)

      • Jersey number

      • ​

  • Number of players

    • There is no minimum of players to start

    • If player arrives late we add to the bottom of line up

    • Can borrow from the opposing team

    • CANNOT borrow players from older IGSA teams

    • CANNOT use players not registered with IGSA

      • This is due to insurance.

    • Any players present at the start of the game, every attempt will be made to make sure that they get an at bat.

    • Coaches are encouraged to hustle the girls between innings, in order to get more playing time.

      • Umpires are being asked to stay within (1) minute between innings

  • Runs per inning

    • Up to 5 runs per half inning

    • Run spreads do not apply

  • Score books

    • Home book is the official book

    • Recommended that both teams keep book.
